“There can be no planetary equity until all the sovereign nations are abolished and we have but one accounting system—that of one family of humans aboard Spaceship Earth,” Bucky wrote in Critical Path.
But how does he envision the sovereignty of nations being abolished?
“Evolution has now accelerated into revolution, which, if it goes bloody, will render all humanity extinct, but if it goes via the design revolution, all humanity will win. Ninety-nine percent of humanity does not know that we have the option to “make it” economically on this planet and in the universe. We do. It can only be accomplished,however, through a design science initiative and technological revolution.”
So what design science initiative can create a new model for governing our world?
Bucky envisioned: that “World coordination… is to be administered… by spontaneously self-organized” citizens whose “worldaround design-science coordination authority” will “progressively displace the sovereign nation's political authorities who, until yesterday, have administered the… system, exclusively on behalf of their respective separate national defenses.”
He spoke about that subject extensively in Utopia Or Oblivion:
“Essence of the world's working will be to make every man able to become a world citizen and able to enjoy the whole earth, going wherever he wants at any time, able to take care of all the needs of all his forward days without any interference with any other man and never at the cost of another man's equal freedom and advantage.”

In the design science revolution world students have at last glimpsed the realization that they no longer must leave the solution of the world's problems to the politicians or to anyone other than themselves. The world's students have glimpserealized that with the same inalienable rights as that of all inventing individuals - i.e., with poetic license only, without guns or weapons of any kind, employing only their intellect which is weightless - they can seize the economic initiative and institute the tool-and-network design revolution and its also realistically designed performance upgrading of the world resources to serve 100% of humanity, instead of 44%.
